Everything for our Hidden Rides project has finally come together. The video package is posted as well as the print story, and updates are being made on our social media. We managed to get up to 44 likes on our Facebook page thanks to some friends willing to accept our invitations.
With hard work and a good team effort, we completed this final project. We learned a lot about scholarship sports and what it takes to earn one. Our focus on rodeo proved to be beneficial, and we are thankful for them and everyone else we interviewed in the last few weeks. Please check out each page of our site as a lot of hard work was put into finding and creating its content. An extra thanks is in order for my two teammates, Justin and Max. I couldn't have done it without the two of you, and this was probably the most relaxing group project I've ever done. We never needed to push each other to get our work done, but everyone took it upon themselves to do what needed to be done. Thanks, and good luck to both of you.
Today, Justin is going for another early morning trip to CAC to complete our video interviews for the package.
I am still working on getting some more likes on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages. We need to get fifty, but we have a little over 20 on Facebook and Instagram, and a little over 30 on Twitter. It is not quite as easy as it seems, but tagging other accounts and using hashtags seems to help a bit. Facebook seems to be the most difficult because inviting people isn't always a sure way to gain likes. Many people ignore the requests to like the page either because they don't want their feed cluttered or just because it isn't interesting to them. Either way, when my teammates are able to assist with sending invites, we should come close to 50. We are also making necessary adjustments to our print story, which will eventually be added to this site. Max has been working very hard to get interviews, which have not come as readily as one may think. Coaches and athletic directors are busy people, so getting a hold of one for an interview has been challenging. We have gotten a few, and been especially lucky with the coaches and players from CAC who have been more than happy to assist us in our project. After getting in contact with a rodeo coach from Central Arizona College, we were on our way to Coolidge, AZ to watch the rodeo team practice. Unfortunately, we arrived around sunset so we would have had a difficult time filming our interviews. We did get some great pictures and got acquainted with many of the students. All of the students on the rodeo team have scholarships, most of them full-ride.
Since we couldn't get all we needed, we will be returning. Check out our films page to see a short video of our trip! Today, myself and my teammates walked around downtown to see if any of the locals knew about hidden sports. The main question we asked is "if you knew you could get a scholarship from sports like ____, would you have participated in that sport?" The people we spoke to collectively agreed.
We have plans to reach out to coaches of both high school and college teams of uncommon sports to gain some more information on the topic. We will also be interested in hearing from the players themselves. The photos from this event are posted on our mobile reporting page. |
